Today was pretty productive. I was working on a track called "Throw the First Stone". John had sent some of the bass tracks for this song sometime last week and I had to place them into Cubase. The song is in drop C so it is pretty low and the low end frequencies on the guitar were occupying a lot of the same turf as the bass. The guitar tracks had to have some EQ applied to them to let the bass sit in the track better. You would think this would make the guitar sound thin but it really doesn't.
Next was the synth parts. I had not laid down any of the synth tracks
after the first chorus and needed to track the second verse, chorus and
the section John calls the "dirge". I'm Using a great sounding VSTi
called Voyager for the synth parts. I had to cut back the delay in the
patch used as it was making the mid range sound like mud! BTW that's a techniqical term, ha!
Editing this thing is beyond me! But, I have been able to find great banks of sounds that others have created for it!
